     CLINIC PREPAREDNESS

  • Preparing a treatment room – it sounds silly, but a clean room before each patient speaks volumes.

  • Opening and closing the clinic – sometimes you could be the first staff member in or out.

Understanding how to secure the premises correctly is a must.

  • Sizing you up – we’ll need your shirt size for a clinic shirt of course.

  • Meeting the local practitioners we refer to – we’ll make time to show you our friends that we refer

to. We’ll try and organise casual or formal appointments for you to see our wide referral base.

  • Speak to all of our practitioners about their work, their passions and their specialties. Know how

they can help you with complex patients.

  • The local tour – You’ll get a nice tour of the local area, so you can know where all of the nice

eateries, bars and shops are. We’ll always give you the heads up on the best spots!

     CLINIC ADMINISTRATION

  • Understand the booking system - we use Cliniko! Our clinic manager will

  • give you a tutorial of this effortless booking system.

  • Set-up your email – yep, we’ll have someone set up your InTouch email account so you can access it from your phone and laptop.

  • How to take a payment – in rare instances, you may need to take a payment. You will be shown how to do this via the HICAPS machine.

  • Learn how to write a report for a GP, insurer or third party. Know how to develop your own or choose to use of our templates.

     â€‹THE IN-ROOM DISCUSSION

  • Taking a good initial case history – learn the tips, trick and techniques to get all of the good

    stuff out of the patient.

  • This is really undervalued – and a real strength in a great practitioner. Trying to develop rap-

port, as well as nailing the important stuff like treatment, diagnosis, co-founding factors, and fear avoidance patterns. Getting the informal and formal chat is really important and helps in the therapeutic outcomes of the patient. This takes time and will develop slowly

  • You’ll get to learn;
    - How to talk about treatment in lay terms. Especially the indirect stuff!
    - Present a rational diagnosis and prognosis with the patient.
    - Know when to refer to another practitioner, and discussing why this would be of benefit. - Diagnosing fear avoidance beliefs early – and feeling confident in your suggestions.

  • As Osteopaths, why we understand the body the best, and how this reflects in our approach.

  • How to book and re-book patients without feeling guilty – and getting busy quickly.

  • Our great online tools, videos/links, anatomy and research articles to show the patient to assist in their understanding.
