Pathology & Genetic Testing

THE FOREFRONT OF PERSONALISED MEDICINE

WE KNOW NUTRIENTS CAN BE REALLY HELPFUL AND NECESSARY IN A LOT OF CASES. BUT WHAT ALSO NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED IS...

How a person's genetic situation affects the way they process, store, metabolise and potentially reject, certain nutrients.

That two people with the same condition who are given the same nutritional treatment, have varying results.

How specific preventative measures may help to reduce certain inherited medical conditions from developing.

WHAT IS PERSONALISED MEDICINE?

Each of us are unique and our wellness can be directly affected by our individual, inherent differences as well as diet, lifestyle choices and the environment we live in. Instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach, personalised medicine allows our Naturopath, Charmaine Newmark, to tailor treatment protocols to achieve more positive outcomes. Charmaine is able to identify patients who are more likely to benefit from specific treatments, nutrient types or dosages in advance from those who are not.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Completing various pathology tests is simple, non-invasive and takes only a few minutes to complete. Call InTouch Health Co. to book your appointment and advise that you are interested in completing a Pathology Tests with our Naturopath, Charmaine Newmark. After an initial consultation, Charmaine will organise for testing kit to be sent to you.

In approximately 10 working days, our Naturopath will be notified that your test results are available. Charmaine will then spend time tailoring some recommendations based on the results. Your results and tailored treatment protocol will then be presented and discussed at your next follow-up consultation.

The cost of pathology tests will be in addition to the Naturopathy consultation fee.

    DETOXIFICATION

Exposure to toxins is unavoidable and how we process and metabolise these toxins may determine overall health status. While the body's innate ability to process toxins is usually very efficient, it can be overloaded, leading to increased toxic burden and impaired detoxification capacity. The result of this can contribute to chronic disease and compromised health.

This testing helps to better understand your ability to detoxify and eliminate certain exogenous and endogenous compounds, allowing you to target patient treatment plans to effectively enhance this process to improve overall wellbeing.

    HORMONE & FERTILITY

Hormones are important for a myriad of functions in the body that look after endocrine health, mental health, reproductive health and fertility. Hormonal imbalances can contribute to numerous health concerns and conditions that affect men and women through all stages of life, fertility and pregnancy.

This testing can help to optimise pregnancy health and reduce risk of miscarriage and neural tube defects by identifying the most appropriate form of folate according to patient’s gene profile.

    METHYLATION

The methylation cycle is responsible for a plethora of important functions in the body from healthy gene expression and immune cell function, to energy production and weight management. The methylation cycle is also responsible for the regulation of homocysteine levels, which when raised and left untreated increases the risk of certain chronic diseases.

This testing can be used to help identify modifiable risk factors for diabetes, depression, cardiovascular disease, reproductive issues, healthy cell production and cognitive dysfunction.

  • MOOD & COGNITION

Our genetic makeup may play an important role in the way we think and feel. How genes are expressed determines how various processes in the body such as the methylation cycle, neurotransmitter production and nutrient metabolism systems function. Alterations or dysfunction in any of these processes may contribute to the causes of mood disorders and cognitive decline.

Understanding how an individual’s genetic makeup influences neurotransmitter production and metabolism may help to uncover key contributing factors to depression, anxiety and other mood disorders.

    NUTRIGENOMIC

Nutrigenomics provides an understanding of how certain foods affect the expression of our genes. In other words, this profile explores exactly how ‘we are what we eat’. Understanding nutrigenomics helps to identify the contributing factors to persistently low nutrient levels and the signs, symptoms and conditions associated with these deficiencies.

How nutrients are metabolised, absorbed and utilised and the impact this has on our genes, is a core component of being able to treat the root cause of a patient’s presenting condition. Understanding which nutrients are best matched to a person’s genetic profile is essential to generating effective and therapeutic treatment plans. Understanding of the nutrigenomic profile will help patients with a variety of issues from addressing an interest in general health through to fighting chronic fatigue or recurrent infections.

WHAT TESTS ARE AVAILABLE?

We recognise the value testing can provide in highlighting the inter-relationships between genes, nutrition and lifestyle. We offer a range of profiles that focus on key areas of health management, including fertility, hormones, mood, detoxification and nutrient influence on gene expression (nutrigenomics). See below for examples of testing available at InTouch Health Co.
